Harry Redknapp has insisted he is still in the hunt for Ghana international midfielder Stephen Appiah.

Appiah is a hot topic of debate at present, as he is available to sign for any club due to his status as a free agent.

The former Fenerbahce man has been linked with a move to England, with it believed that Arsenal, West Ham and Pompey are vying for his signature.

There has been talk that Chelsea could step in with a bid following the injury to Michael Essien, but Redknapp says he has not given up hope of landing the midfielder.

“It hasn't moved on really,” Redknapp told The News. “He's a good player, but I don't know if I will be able to bring anyone else in.

”It's not dead. I tried to buy him a couple of years ago and they were asking for £10 million.

”He's a good player, but whether I'm in a position to do it, I don't know.”

Redknapp is aware that he will have to dig deep to secure Appiah’s signature. He added:”He's a free agent, but he won't come cheap. He will be on big money.”
