Ghana club Asante Kotoko have been banned from playing their next two African club competition matches at home and fined for a recent attack on a referee, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed.

The decision comes after an assault on Benin referee Bonaventure Coffi Codjia at the end of a 2-2 draw with Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the African Confederation Cup last month.

Kotoko will have to play their next two home matches away from their base in Kumasi.

They have qualified for next year’s MTN CAF Champions League. The club were also fined US$ 15 000.

Kotoko have a rich tradition of success in African club competition, including two African Champions Cup titles and six other appearances in continental club competition finals.
