Nigerian striker Stephen Makinwa has slammed reports that he is seeking to leave Italian club Lazio.

Makinwa was reported to be unhappy over his lack of first team action for the Serie A club and was being targeted by English and Greek clubs.

But the striker has denied seeking a move away from Lazio insisting he is keen on fighting for his first team place.

"There is no truth in this. This is just a wicked and unprofessional act of journalism," Makinwa told Kickoff.

"I did not grant any interview and certainly didn't say those things that were credited to me.

"It is a shame that some people will just sit down and speculate because there have been no talks whatsoever."

Despite failing to hold his first team place at Lazio, the Nigerian forward says he wants to fight for his place.

"I have read about several things in the media but I have never reacted to any because I want to stay focused," Makinwa told said.

"My immediate target is to earn a place in the squad because I have had to deal with one injury or the other for two years now.

"I am happy and I am feeling good now and that is why I feel so sad about all these rumours and speculations going around."
