Chances are that the hardworking Senegalese defensive midfielder Amdy Faye could be heading back to Portsmouth, the club that originally brought him to the English Premier League when they snapped him up from French side Auxerre back in 2003.

Faye stayed at Fratton Park for two seasons and transferred in the summer of 2005 to Newcastle where he spent another season and then moved to Charlton Athletic from mid 2006 to the end of the 2007/2008 season, although he did spend a large part of that season on loan at Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.

Faye’s return to top flight football this season with promoted Stoke City has been a successful one and has seen him attract a lot of interest from a number of Premier League sides, including Tony Adams, manager of his former club Portsmouth.

While Faye has a contract which runs to the end of the season, Adams believes that it might be possible to entice Stoke into concluding a deal for him, given that they could miss out on cashing in on a transfer fee should he decide to leave them as a free agent at the end of the season.

Given Faye’s contributions at the Britannia stadium it is not likely that Stoke manager Tony Pulis will even entertain a bid which could see the midfielder moving away from the club.

Pulis earlier in the week lashed out at the media in general for creating transfer speculation around any of his players.

While Tony Adams is keen for Faye to return to Portsmouth, he might have to wait for June 1 instead of February 1 to unveil the highly effective defensive midfielder as the latest addition to the Fratton Park line-up.
