Nigerian international striker Nwankwo Kanu has backed South African captain Aaron Mokoena to succeed at English Premiership club Portsmouth.

Defensive midfielder Mokoena will team up with Kanu next season after signing a three-year deal to move to Fratton Park from Blackburn Rovers, where he had been playing since 2005.

"Aaron is like a brother from another mother, I have his number and we talk on the phone a lot," Kanu said.

"I have played with, and against him at club and national level – he will settle in quickly here because he is experienced in the Premiership and he knows a lot of players well."
