Ghana international goalkeeper Sammy Adjei has denied that he ever quit the national team. It had been reported that the 29-year-old ended his international career after the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, but the Hearts of Oak stopper denies this.

"I only asked the technical team to exempt me from some games because I needed to sort out some issues with my club," Adjei told 90 Minutes.

"Never did I say anywhere that I was resigning from the national team. This is not true and I want to set the records straight because I'm ready to serve the nation whenever I'm called upon.

"With the eight more years I have ahead of me before I hang my gloves, I believe I will be good enough to bring a World Cup medal to Ghana.

"This is my dream and I hope that I live up to it before I retire."
