Bordeaux Face First Defeat Of Season

Moroccan star Marouane Chamakh was a substitute as French Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux were beaten 3-1 away at St Etienne on Saturday.

It was a first defeat of the season for the side, who have now been overtaken at the top of the table by Lyon, 2-0 winners at Lens without Cameroonian Jean Makoun in the team. Mamadou Niang was on the scoresheet once again for Marseille, but they lost 2-1 at home to Monaco, a desperatly disappoininting result for 'OM'.

Benin star Stephane Sessegnon netted for Paris St Germain as they drew 1-1 with Nancy at home, with Moroccan Youssouf Hadji netting for the third game in a row for the visitors.

Chaouki Ben Saada netted for Nice as they defeated Valenciennes 3-2, one of five African players to appear for the side on the day. Senegalese star Mamadou Samassa was also on target for the visitors.

Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan could not inspire Rennes to victory as they lost 1-0 at home to Auxerre, while Tunisian Yassin Mikari was in fine form as Souchax beat Le Mans 1-0. Boulogne lost 3-2 at home to Lille, while Lorient beat Toulouse 1-0 away and Montpellier were 3-2 winners at Grenoble.
