February 9, 2010

According to a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Russia coach Guus Hiddink has asked for more time to allow him consult and consider an offer to lead the Super Eagles to the World Cup, just as several other countries have joined the race for the expertise of the Dutch coach.

“We have contacted Hiddink, who said he does not wish to be rushed into making a decision. He wants to make a lot of consultations before we can have his word,” NFF international consultant, Tunde Adelakun, told MTNFootball.com from his base in London Tuesday.

“We are talking about a top coach, who has attracted a lot of interests from across the world. For example, Turkey want him to be their director of football , while Ivory Coast want him to lead them to the World Cup, just like we want him to lead us.”

Adelakun added: “Hiddink had a brief stop-over in London and has now returned to Russia, where he has a contract till after the World Cup.

“If by February 26, when we plan to interview all the coaches on the short list, we do not hear from him, we will have no choice than to carry on without him. That’s my personal opinion on this matter.”

Adelakun also disclosed that invitation letters to the other coaches on the short list bar Louis van Gaal, who has opted out of the Nigeria coaching job, have been sent out by the NFF.

NFF must do everythingh within their powers to secure the services of Guuis Hiddink even though it involves breaking the Swiss bank and Paris Club to pay the $8million Per annum he requested for. Nigerians can't wait for his unveiling as the Gaffer of our Super Eagles. Anything short of Hiddink will not be entertained nor tolerated from the Federation. This is the Man we need NOW to Rebrand our soccer. Nigeria is enormously rich to pay any coach in the world and Hiddink can't be different. WE 'RE WATCHING AND WAITING.
